TOPIC: Unit and side editor
Unit and side editor 8 years, 5 months ago #1445
I'm probably a few years late with this question, but here it goes:
Why doesn't Warlords IV have a unit and side editor like Warlords DLR has? I know about the warlord & retinue editor by WizIce (big thanks for that, marvellous work!), but it's just not the same as the complete editors that Warlords 3 DLR has. I know unofficial patches have been released for Warlords 4 several years ago, so I guess the game can be edited somehow, would it be a big thing to ask for the release of that editor? Or maybe some hint's on how it is done? hex editing? |

Amador,
The units / sides for Warlords IV are built into the code itself. For DLR that information was stored in individual unit files. When I did the patches for Warlords IV, I had the source code which is why I could make changes to the units. At one time I hoped to export all the unit data into XML files that could be edited by a program like WizIce's editor. But that proved to be non-trivial in terms of time and there were so many other things that needed improvement / fixing that I put aside the idea and never got back to it. KGB |

Thanks for the answer! Even today, I still play some hotseat games against my self and some friends, testing the different sides against each other, and I would gladly take away the slayer capabilities of low level units, hurts the game's balance in my opinion.(like Undead's Manslaying skeletons vs Empire side). Too bad it seems I will never be able to change it now.

It's always nice to hear people are still playing the game. I too play it on occasion with friends over the internet so we can both control armies in battles. I've never playing in hotseat mode.
The slayer skills are needed to balance out the strong units that level up. Especially retinue units that go beyond level 10. Also the strength/hits/skills of units on each side isn't perfectly balanced so the slayers compensate for that too. Of course that leads to some mismatches like Undead vs Empire which lacks deathslayer but there is no way to perfectly balance out 10 sides so there will always be something to exploit. KGB |
