TOPIC: Erythea Scenario
Erythea Scenario 11 years, 9 months ago #886
I got an email from a Warlord saying they couldn't get the Erythea scenario to work because it is missing some army files.
So I took a look in the zip archive and sure enough this isn't a normal scenario that comes in a w3s form. It appears it's just a bunch of zipped up files from several directories instead of packing it as a scenario. Unfortunately one of them isn't the armies. I tried to load this scenario the editor but when I go to edit the map it dies on me immediately (I did not copy the items to the item folder but I can't imagine that is why the map wouldn't load). I believe this originally came from Mod3M's site since he has a copy there. Anyone else have another copy that works / they can play / edit in the editor? KGB |

Hi there, email sender here
I went to Mod3m site and also downloaded the other scenario made by the same author as erythea, Tomas Ross. same format. it includes an army folder with the brmage files inside. I've copypasted those in the DRL army folder, sure enough erythea no longer fails when trying to open brmage file. it now fails when trying to open cavalie file. argh! I've downloded all other scenarios on that site, but that file is not included in any of them |

success, somewhat.
what you need is the nut1 heroes and spells... it works now, if not for the last spell of the dwarven warrior hero... how can it be not inside of nut1? :/ edit: unpacked I think everything that exists for DLR, still no trace of the missing spell... what could it be? |

Gekko,
Some great detective work there! Do you know what spell is missing? I may have it and just not realize it. A lot of the really old stuff like NUT wasn't always properly put together and other times it got modified at a later date and someone didn't realize they were missing a file etc when they made their archive. If the person who created the Eyrthea scenario had used the official scenario editor and packed the scenario it would have automatically included every needed file. Instead they tried to hand add things and of course made a mess of it. Once you get it working I will ask you to use the scenario editor and pack it up properly along with Midkemia and I'll replace the existing archives with working ones. KGB |

unfortunately I don't, it shows up as 'èò' or something like that. I know it costs 4 AP, but that's it.
is there a way to check that hero in the editor to see what that spell is supposed to be? the scenario editor won't do, but maybe some community made tool will do the trick |

ah, I think I found the problem. the name of the file is antimagic.spl but the game is looking for antmagic.spl since it has to be 8 digits. renamed it and it works.
however, ingame the antimagic spell is identical to armageddon ( it's even called that way ) : it could make sense, since the effect is shatter + banish + dispel , but I'm not 100% sure it's correct |

Gekko,
That's the right spell. I looked in my older Warlords directory that I have the original NUT stuff installed from back in 1998. My Dwarf warrior is using the antmagic spell and in my spell folder I have a proper antmagic spell which is indeed the Armageddon spell (Also used by the LichLord hero). So you've got it right. Some great work there on figuring things out. Now, can you do me a favor and run the Scenario Editor and pack up the Eythrea scenario so that is creates a w3s file. Then I can properly put that on the site instead of what's there and broken. If you can also check the Midkemia scenario and make a w3s file out of that too I'd really appreciate it. KGB |

Gekko,
Got em. Deleted what I had and unpacked what you sent. Both worked perfectly. I'll be updating the download section this weekend. Midkemia is actually the more interesting scenario. Instead of starting with just 1 city/2-3 armies the game sets up with all cities owned and divided into the Kingdoms from the Riftwar saga. If you play one/all of the human sides (and leave the AI sides as AI it will be quite a challenge because the humans start at a distinct disadvantage in terms of cities, armies, heroes etc. I'm going to move this one in the download section from random map to actual scenario. Thanks again and enjoy Erythea, KGB |

Re: Erythea Scenario 11 years, 9 months ago #906
I've checked out Midkemia but didn't like it much, I prefer to start with capitol only
Myth v5 is another one I've checked out, I can tell its great quality but I just don't like the map itself ... plus I get VERY bored without "spy on enemies" , it may be cheap but the wait between turns is way too long otherwise and besides there's the event log spoilering already. I also don't know how to disable allied victory, I don't remember that option ever being available tbh o.O my favourite maps where all from W2 deluxe I think. erythea, the hand-shaped one, the wheel-shaped one, the spiderweb-shaped one... and some from the DLR campaigns like the first one of the Horn of Kor for example. this Erythea version for DLR unfortunately isn't made with the quality one would hope for tbh, I think after all I prefer Illuriav4 from the wizards isle site: great attention to detail, includes K4heroes and stormheim units... good stuff. I just hate the crappy Sirian capitol placement from the original that forces them to kill or be killed by the Elvallie immediately. I guess that makes them the human faction of choice by the way, what do you think about using the custom Mythv5 ruleset with other scenarios like Illuriav4 and Erythea? would it mess up game balance, or could it actually make for a better experience? it seems like those rule changes where made to offset some DLR shortcomings ( kinda like an overhaul ) and could work well also with other maps, but I'm afraid they're custom tailored for myth and will do more ill than bad for anything else |
