Warlords 2 and Win7 12 years ago #734
First of all, "Hi" to everybody from Austria! You also have big fans here!
As a big fan of the whole Warlords Series I still hope that there will be a fifth part sooner or later....I have always been a silent reader in your old forum and I am still with you here in the new one. Yesterday I finally signed in. Don't know why it took me so long.... Have you found a way how to play Warlords 2 in Win7 without using the Dos Box?? I can't get it started.... Thank's a lot and I am looking forward to talk with you guys! Cheers, we shall meet again! |

Wargul,
It's not possible to play War2 in Win7 without an emulator. Win7 doesn't allow 16 bit programs to run nor DOS based programs to run. What's wrong with just downloading DosBox? It's free and simple to use and runs the game perfectly fine. KGB |

Thank you for your quick reply! Wow
I have a problem running dos box, because it always uses two mouse arrows and not similar. That means, I move one coursor and a second follows but not in the same time but the second is the one, I have to work with and I can't get rid of this problem. I have already asked in a technical forum but never received any answer? If you could help me, I would be glad and more happy that I can play Warlords 2 again on win7 |

Wargul,
I have never had the double cursor problem. Are you playing full screen mode or in a window? If you are playing in a window I can see why it might happen with 1 cursor being your windows cursor and other other being the Dosbox cursor. KGB |

HI! It doesn't matter in what screen mode it try to play it, it' s always the same. But I got it running last night. But it is just not working right. I have to turn off the music to lanuch it, otherwise the music never stops playing and I can't click a thing. (The problem I already posted)
If I try to speed up the cpu (ctrl + F12) the sounds dies, No matter how fast I turn it up, it is still way to slow to play it. No chance to compare it to xp, there it perfectly worked. But thank's for trying to help me! |

Wargul,
It sounds like you are having problems with the auto-lock feature that is meant to lock the cursor into Dosbox and out of windows. Have you tried pressing CTRL-F10 when clicking in DosBox to manually lock the cursor into Dosbox? if that still doesn't work for you then there are other emulators. For example you can get a VirtualBox emulator and try with say Win2000 which was able to run War2. This Warlord had provided one with War3 already installed. You could email him and ask for it and then copy over War2 to the VirtualBox. It's more complex that Dosbox but has a better chance of working. www.warlorders.com/forum?func=view&catid=14&id=293 KGB P.S. I am of course assuming you have the latest (0.74) version of Dosbox and that you run it in Win7 by double clicking on it and doing everything manually from the command prompt (recommended when having problems). |

Thank you for the link! And this is what I am going to try, but as far as I remember, Warlord2 was best on xp, but I'll just give both a try!
For this week, I'll forget about Dos-Box, I know it is usually a good thing to get old games started! Cheers, wargul16 |

Hi KGB! Thanks for all your help so far! Using the cursor in Dropbox works well, so no problems with that. The only problem I have using dosbox and playing war2 is the game speed. It is like playing back then when it was the latest and best game ever! *cheers* And it doesn't change at all if you turn up the speed (cpu) in Dosbox. The speed goes up a bit but the whole sound goes down. I don't know why? I tried it with a virtual machine, the one Bates recommends. He himself has tried to get war2 running and wrote me a mail a few days ago that he can't get it started? So I am a bit confused at the moment. I always had it running on any xp version. Here everybody talks about win2000, so I tried win2000....no chance...? The last chance is to use win xp parallel to win 7... but that sounds just strange to me... I can even play it on my mobile phone and its way faster there than on any PC???? I just don't get it..? Any advise? Greets from Austria! wargul16 |

Just to say that I have tried W2 Deluxe and that crashed my VM but Warlords 2 itself seems to run OK. I have never played it so I can't say if it is working properly. The only issue I can see straight away it the 'double cursor'. This happens even in VirtualBox when the VM is set to full screen. I can stop this happening by going to the VirtualBox menu and choosing 'Machine > Disable Mouse Integration' which is also done by pressing HOST+I (where HOST is the key set in VirtualBox preferences for the VM, mine is Pause). Note that when you do this the mouse will become 'trapped' in the Virtual Machine and you will have to do CTRL+ALT+DEL to get it back.
To get it running all I did is download the files from this site. Extract and copy to the C drive of the VM then I ran WAR2.BAT. Batz (not Bates!!!) |
